Sagrada Familia, August 2005 . . .

In 1883 Antoni Gaudi initiated work on a Neo-Gothic church that was to become his masterpiece; an iconic work of art that has been reaching for the stars for over 100 years.  It is still an ongoing work of love.  Today it is nearing completion.

When we first visited Barcelona, in 1992, we were overwhelmed by the bell towers and facades of the rising cathedral.  The walls enclosed what was to become one of the most daring and unusual churches in the world.  The heart of the church was open to the clouds above.  It was already more than a 100 years in the making and I wondered if I would live long enough to see it finished.

Twenty-six years later, as it nears completion, I think I may well have a chance to visit Sagrada Familia and gaze upon Gaudi’s completed work of art.  What follows are a few photos from 2005 and May 2014.
